Camp Food Allergy Information

Hello! We are absolutely excited to add to the fun and joy of camp through the food we will be eating! Camp is a shared experience and that includes our meals. To make sure we can all participate we need to know if someone attending camp has any food allergies or other illnesses/diseases (ex. Celiac disease, Diabetes) that would impact what they can eat. We also need to know the severity of the situation and how it is handled.

Here is an example:

If something is being served with apples in it and you have an allergy, do you:

  1. Just eat around it. If I accidentally take a bite my lips might go a little numb.

  2. Just eat around it but if I accidentally take a bite my throat feels itchy, and I might need Benadryl or an EpiPen.

  3. Avoid eating and can’t have any cross-contact because I will absolutely need to use my EpiPen that I carry for this purpose.

  4. I am so allergic to apples; I cannot even enter the building because just the fumes would put me in anaphylactic shock.

Can you see how with answers 1 and 2 we can easily include apples. With answer 3 we would probably need to discuss with you before we included them. With answer 4 apples would be banned from the building!

Please tell us not only what you are allergic to but the degree you are allergic and how you usually handle it if you accidentally ingest it.

If you are truly vegetarian, please list that and what you will or won’t eat.

Here is an example:

I am vegetarian and I will still have dairy but no eggs.

I am vegan. Only plants for me.

Don’t worry. If we cannot accommodate your allergy, we have a giant fridge, freezer, and pantry that we will give you access to for your special eating needs. The camaraderie and enjoyment around food is still going to be a great part of your camp experience!
